Technical Notes: Device Drivers
FireWire is a cross-platform implementation of the high-speed serial data bus defined by the IEEE 1394 standards. It is well suited for use with multimedia peripherals such as digital video cameras and high-speed hard disk drives and printers. With the I/O Kit, Apple's object-oriented driver development framework, Mac OS X supports development of both application-level and in-kernel FireWire drivers.
